Oooh, an experiment in the making!!

I had seen references to silk being damaged above 185, but no explanation of how. This merits investigation!

I meant to mention to you...while at Maryland Sheep and Wool I spoke to a dyer about your crocking dilemma...she felt strongly that it was likely the silk and not the alpaca. This because she has found that if silk is heated beyond 185 degrees it will not hold on to its dye very well. Interesting!

Oh that's SO cool! You get to wear your tree's blooming all year round! And a North Star cherry! They don't grow here. Beautiful stole, beautiful tree in the backdrop.

I can't wait till my little cherry tree blooms too!

I have been wearing it a lot and not experiencing any crocking. The last two rinses were preceded by soaks in wool wash, and while some color was still coming out in the wool wash water, the rinse water was quite clear. I don't know if it was the alpaca/silk, the rather nonchalant way I dumped vinegar in, the burgundy dye being a notoriously hard color, or what, but I feel pretty good about it now.

My next crazy nonchalant overdyeing project will be reported on next. Happily, it rinsed clean very quickly!

Wow. I'm glad you are satisfied with your finished project! What a lot of work. Have you been wearing it to work a lot, and is it, indeed, not rubbing off on your clothes? What was that word again -- crocking?

Whoa!
I am a bit behind, what with three kids in three different sports, my hubby and I training for a sprint triathlon, and a wifi that isn't working, but I just started listening to your April 18th podcast, and I'm still blushing!!
Thanks so much for the shout out! I hope you do get to knit the shawl or the bag, and you STILL like them afterwards!
You two are the best!
