Hi, Jan,
I’m finally making headway on Deep Into the Forest. In fact, in the last few days I finished the yoke. I’ll miss the color, but I won’t miss working with multiple threads. It is challenging to juggle three or more colors, especially on the backside and throwing in a scad of purl stitches throughout the pattern. Most of the rows are just two colors, but even those are a pain when mixing knits and purls.
The results are worth the pain. Here is the entire yoke and one close up of the back, which is almost as enchanting as the front. That is true about so many things. This may explain why “The Making of…” documentaries are of interest to so many.

Also growing, finally are some beans on my pile o’ bean vines. The 3 pods that showed up in July are maturing into a gorgeous color, and now they have some baby sisters.
Still, when you are seeing ripening prairie grass on hikes, you wonder if these babes are going to make it.
Wilson and I are getting ready to head out to the state fair, where we will undoubtedly grow a bit, too.
Love,
Ellen

I absolutely LOVE the look (both the front and the back) of the yoke!!! I, like you, totally enjoy seeing the “behind the scenes” of things. I am always turning clothes inside out, and movies - my personal theory is that the studios could make ba-zillions of $$ on selling blooper and behind the scenes ‘making of’ movies.

Okay, I think my favorite is the back…though I love the front too. You inspired me to buy Poems of Color….am I next?

The bohus is gorgeous — and yes, I think that the back side of colorwork is at least as wonderful as the front side. It’s looking great!!

I can’t believe you got Wilson to agree to go to the Fair! Perhaps he just had to see your winning efforts on display? Or did the chocolate-covered bacon lure him in?

I love the sweater! At some point I hope to learn the delicate art of carrying the yarn from you o’ master knitter. I am so glad to hear that your garden is bearing fruit! My mom is growing veggies this year as well and she couldn’t be happier with the results. I am on my way to the fair now myself, and I will definitely be on the look out for the chocolate covered bacon that Kathy mentioned!
