Dear Jan,
This was the weekend that I was going to get 82% of the holiday preparations done - plan the menus, start the baking, get the base housecleaning done, shop for most of the gifts. Instead, Wilson and I enjoyed the quiet. I knit, I cleaned up my stash, we went to a movie. Maybe today we’ll get a few things done, but really I want to hold onto the peacefulness.
And laugh as the kiddens try to figure out how to get the birdy through the glass. (Brave goldfinch, eh? Click to embiggen and see him.)
I hope you had a wonderful time with Heidi and Marie and were able to enjoy some of the weekend. Thanks for keeping the world safe.
Love,
Ellen

Sometimes holding on to the peaceful is the absolutely correct choice! I endorse your wise selection!!

Oh this sounds familiar! I thought for sure that I’d get some Christmas shopping done online, but instead I’ve knitted a hat. And I think that’s the right thing to have done…

We have totally enjoyed our weekend of not doing any holiday prep… of course we are spending it lolling about at my parents house in PA. Once we get back to Phoenix on Wed there won’t be much lolling for quite a while. Unfortunately, probably not much decorating either, as all my holiday stuff is still in our house hold goods, which are in a ware house somewhere in the area. I guess I will just have to bake like a fiend, and knit at the end of each day of cleaning and clearing.

Sometimes a quiet weekend is the best preparation there is.
There was a squirrel on our deck last weekend. He was hiding from the wind at the end of one of the planters, in full view of the cats sitting 4 feet away on their tree inside the window. I swear he was enjoying the tease. (As were they, truth be told…)
